Details

Exposure to extreme heat causes maternal complications, impacts fetal development, and disrupts access to maternal healthcare. Highly exposed regions already have the worst maternal and infant mortality rates due to lack of investment in reproductive health and exacerbated by gender inequality. This means women and girls have less power, resources and access to climate information, and have more challenges avoiding exposure to heat. This session will advocate for equitable healthcare access for pregnant people, inclusion in decision-making and in climate advocacy, and strategies for managing heat-related health risks. We will also share interventions and tools that integrate heat action within maternal health services.
