Details
Ecosystems can help to prevent disaster and reduce impacts of disasters on people, critical infrastructure and services. They can also build local socio-ecological resilience against disasters by sustaining livelihoods and providing important products to local populations in times of crises. Socio-ecological resilience is defined as “the capacity to adapt or transform in the face of change in social-ecological systems, particularly unexpected change, in ways that continue to support human well- being” (Folke et al, 2016). The session will explore what socio-ecological resilience means to different stakeholders in the context of disaster risk reduction. The event will take a holistic approach to the concept of socio-ecological resilience by showcasing solutions across different contexts, from local to international scales and across various sectors. We must empower multiple actors, ensuring their voices are heard, their perspectives are valued, and their diverse values are integrated into the design of these solutions.
